The Last Showgirl: Grit Over Glamour

If you’re like us, sometimes you watch a movie based on title and cast alone. You don’t watch a trailer, read a spoiler, or know the extent of the adventure you’re about to take. That was The Last Showgirl.

Love Vegas. Love Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Brenda Song. But if you’re thinking there might be some T&A of your fave girls in this; you’ll be rather disappointed.

Yes, there’s some T&A because the story is told against a backdrop of flashy semi-nude entertainment. But the focal point of Shelly (Pamela Anderson) takes you behind the scenes of a 50+ year old dancer who can’t let go of a show that peaked decades prior. She’s quickly presented with two doors to her future and, frankly, she’s choosing between the ordinary humdrum of lives like ours or a has-been who can’t hide it anymore.

The film is a short ~90 minutes (just like we like ’em), and the cast is worth watching. If you’re looking to pull back the curtain on the glitz of Vegas workers, this movie will do it. If you’re looking for boobs and butts, this movie isn’t it. It’s not following 20-somethings partying in the after-hours. It’s giving hope, reality, and a reminder that your dreams may never fade.
